Curriculum vitae Matthias A. Ehrmann (born 1963 in Munich, Germany)


Matthias Ehrmann studied biology at Technische Universität München (TUM, Germany). He obtained his PhD in Microbiology at TUM in the field of taxonomy of lactic acid bacteria. He obtained his habilitation (venia legendi) in microbiology  at TUM leading a research group in the field of molecular taxonomy and biotechnology of lactic acid bacteria. Since 1994 he works as senior scientist at TMW. In 2008 he declined an offer for full professorship of food microbiology and hygiene at the university Bonn, Germany and he became apl. Professor at TUM.

Current research topics: Utilization of lactic acid bacteria in (food)biotechnology, Virulence and ecology of food born enterococci, genome- transcriptome- and proteome analyses. Taxonomy and biodiversity of lactic acid bacteria. Bacteria between pathogens and probiotics.

He is ad-hoc reviewer for scientific journals e.g. Appl. Environ. Microbiol., Int. J. Syst. Env. Microbiol., Syst. Apl. Microbiol., Arch. Microbiol., etc.

He is (co)author of > 80 original scientific manuscripts published in international peer reviewed journals.
